The decision follows an emergency meeting of the House of Federation on September 10, 2020, which ruled that elections in the Tigray region had not been held, held and will not be held.
The Standing Committee on Constitutional Affairs and Identity Matters, which monitors the decision, passed the decision at its regular meeting today.

As a result, tensions between the federal government and the Tigray region have escalated, with senior leaders of the ruling TPLF party in the region repeatedly saying they would end their relationship with the central government after September October 6.

Second, the federal government will work with the legal institutions of the region, including the city and kebele administrations, to focus on the needs of the people of Tigray for development and basic services.
Third, the implementation of the decision should be monitored by the Speaker of the House of Federation and the relevant standing committee.
